Memorial Donation Program
Vernon Township accepts donations to memorialize a departed family member or friend, or to commemorate a special occasion. Standard donations include the planting of a tree, a picnic table, bench and/or bike rack at any of our Township Parks. Alternate types of donations are also welcome. Please contact the Department of Community Affairs to discuss your specific request.
Anyone can sponsor this unique dedication which provides a lasting remembrance that can be enjoyed by all park visitors. Park donations give back to the community in ways no other gift can.
The placement of tree or bench donations within the park is determined in collaboration with the township. Donors will be given several locations from which to choose. For trees, the available options may be influenced by the species selected.
Donations can be proposed year round, however please note that installation/planting takes place only from April through October. A ceremony or gathering at the time of a tree planting or bench unveiling is welcome, but it must be arranged in advanced with the Department of Community Affairs.
Park bench with plaque: $1,500.00
Park bench is 6' long and made from recycled plastics. Color is cedar & black. This includes a standard 8" x 2" bronze plaque and installation. A standard 12" x 6" granite marker with 3 lines of text & optional image. larger or engraved benches available for an additional charge.
Tree donation with plaque: $150.00
Donor provides the tree; the donation covers the plaque and labor to install both. Examples of trees that have been found to grow well in the park include Flowering Dogwood, Thundercloud Plum, Douglas Fir, Cleveland Pear or a Weeping Cherry. A general size guideline is anything that will grow 20 to 30 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet wide. A standard 12" x 6" stake mounted granite marker is included.
Picnic table with plaque: $1,600.00 - $2,000.00
Picnic tables made of thermo plastic coated steel and come in a variety of sizes & shapes depending on which location they will be placed in. This includes a standard 2" x 6" plaque that can hold 3 lines of text.
Bike rack: $500.00
Park-it bike racks are a great addition to our pump track. This includes standard 2" x 6" plaque with 3 lines of text and installation.
Donors are welcome to purchase their own plaque with prior approval for the Director of Recreation.
