Statement of Compliance

The following statement of compliance was read by Craig Williams.

Pursuant to the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 adequate notice as defined in Section 3D of Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 has been communicated from the Vernon Municipal Center to the New Jersey Herald and published on January 18, 2007. Notice is also posted on the bulletin board and filed with the office of the Township Clerk.

Roll Call

The roll call of members was called and Dennis Downey, Gary Grey, David Gornstein and Craig Williams answered the call.

Open Meeting to the Public

Jerry Levy, Curtis Drive, Vernon and Rich Casper, Curtis Drive, Vernon addressed the EC regarding Whispering Woods.

Mr. Levy asked if the EC reviewed any recent plans for Whispering Woods. He also requested the EC support the Hidden Valley Homeowners at Wednesday night’s PB meeting. In closing, Mr. Levy requested the EC not give up the fight.

David Gornstein updated the current status which included retaining a storm water specialist. Austin Carew addressed the EC to update the status of the canoe launching sites.

Mr. Carew discussed the McAfee/Legends Redevelopment Plan and advised the EC that they need to be involved in the plan process. He further advised that the town council did not accept the initial plan.

Approval of Meeting Minutes

Dennis Downey made a motion to approve the April 24, 2007 minutes; Craig Williams seconded the motion.

Applications Under Review

PB #5-07-7: Vernon Center LLC—David Licata Traffic Report, Construction Cost Estimate, Supplemental Topography Map

The EC commented the application does not include the original topography prior to clearing and excavation.

ZB #5-07-5: Nextel Communications—Use Variance, Preliminary & Final Site Plan

The EC agreed the application does not create environmental impact.

Planning Board Liaison Report

David Gornstein advised that the PB meeting was cancelled.

New Business

Black Creek

Craig Williams read the EC a letter he drafted to the Highlands Council regarding protection of the Black Creek Watershed.

Old Business


Dennis Downey asked for feedback from the EC. Comments included:

  1. Consolidate into one area.
  2. More activities for children.
  3. Advertise the times of special events.

There being no further items of business for the regular meeting, a motion was made by David Gornstein to adjourn the meeting; Dennis Downey seconded the motion. The regular meeting of the Vernon Township Environmental Commission was adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
